  • 7:15 a.m. - Registration, Packet Pick-Up and Gear Check Opens

  • 8:55 a.m. - Registration and Packet Pick-Up Closes

  • 8:30 a.m. - Start - 5K

  • 8:35 a.m. - Start - 2 Mile Walk

  • 9:00 a.m. - Start - 10 Miler

  • 9:15 a.m. - Post-Race Celebration Begins!

  • 9:30 a.m. - Awards Ceremony (5K Overall Awards*)

  • 10:30 a.m. - Awards Ceremony (10 Mile Overall Awards*)

  • 12:00 p.m. - Finish Line Close (Cut-Off is 3 hours)

  • 12:15 p.m. - Awards / Results Tent Closes

  • 12:15 p.m. - Beer Garden Last Call

  • 12:15 p.m. - Gear Check Closes

  • 12:30 p.m. - Post-Race Celebration Closes

*Age group and Clydesdale/Athena awards will be awarded at the awards/results tent. Runners may check their status at the awards tent immediately after finishing and throughout the event.

LOCATION / TRAVEL / PARKING

The Wintrust Lakefront 10 Miler & 5K is easily accessible from Lakeshore Drive and free street parking is plentiful within the park.

Wilson Track @ Montrose Beach

(Corner of Wilson Dr. & Lakeshore Dr.)

GPS Search: Wilson Skate Park

Parking:

Carpooling is encouraged. Free street parking is available within the park on Montrose Ave., Simonds Dr., Lawrence Ave. and Foster Ave. Wilson Drive, east of the Wilson Lot entrance, will be closed for the race start line. Paid parking is available in the Chicago Park District lots at Wilson Dr. and Lakeshore Dr. (Wilson Lot) and at Foster Avenue and Lakeshore Dr. (Foster Beach).

Public Transportation:

Public transportation and carpooling is encouraged. 

 

Public Transit: The following bus lines will get you near the start; 78-Montrose, 81-Lawrence, 145-Wilson/Michigan, and 146-Marine/Michigan. Be sure to check the bus schedule with your desired departure time. The 145 and 146 routes start running later on the weekends. You may also take the Red-Line Train to Wilson and head east about one mile to the start.​

Ride Share:

Those traveling to the event by ride share should drop off inside the Wilson Lot. Ride share drivers will not be able to turn-around on Wilson Dr.

Bike:

Bike racks are available near the start/finish line for participants who choose to ride to the race. Please bring a bike lock. A Divvy station is located immediate adjacent to the start line.

Race Day:

Race day packet pick-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:55 a.m. Participants are encouraged to attend a pre-race packet pick-up to avoid delays on race morning. 

 

Packet Mailing:

Participants may elect to have their packets mailed to them for a fee of $12.50. Packet mailing is only available on registration until March 31st Packets will be mailed two weeks prior to the event. The event is not able to take responsibility for errors by the US Postal Service and it is the participant's responsibility to ensure that their mailing address is provided correctly and in full at time of registration. Only one packet will be mailed in each package. 

GEAR CHECK

Gear Check will be provided for all runners and will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. You may check a bag of your choice using the gear check tag received at packet pick-up. Please note the gear check area is not covered. In the event of inclement weather, you may wish to choose a plastic or weather-proof bag. The event is not responsible for lost or damaged items checked at gear check. Please do not check valuables.

AWARDS

The following awards will be presented by the Chicago Area Runners Association:

FINISHER MEDALS

All finishers will be rewarded with a unique custom finisher medal!

OVERALL

The top three males and females in both the 10 Mile and 5K will be awarded custom plaque awards.

PRIZE MONEY

Males and females in the 10 Mile will be awarded prize money as follows: 1st - $350, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $150.  Top CARA Member - $100

AGE GROUPS

In both the 10 Mile and 5K the top three male and female runners in the following age groups will be awarded custom glassware: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85 and over.

CLYDESDALE / ATHENA

Top three male and female Clydesdale (male) / Athena (female) 10 Mile and 5K finishers will be awarded custom glassware. Clydesdale runners must weight at least 185 pounds and Athena runners must weigh at least 155 pounds to qualify. Clydesdale and Athena runners must registered their intention to participate in this category and weigh-in at a pre-race packet pick-up.

Strollers / Pets?

For the safety of all runners, participants in the 5K and 10 Mile are NOT allowed to participate with baby joggers, strollers or animals. To request an accommodation for service animals please e-mail events@cararuns.org. Participants in the 2 Mile walk may participate with strollers.

 

How will I be timed?

Each runner in the 5K and 10 Mile will have the chronotrack B-Tag affixed to the back of their race bib/number. Do not bend or break this tag. Place your race bib on your outside layer of clothing on your front chest or abdomen. The number must be fully visible while participating. Please do not pin number to leggings, back or behind layers of clothing. Please do not hand carry number. Participants in the 2 Mile Walk will not be timed.

 

Is the race chip-timed or gun-timed?

All participants in the 5K and 10 Mile will receive a gun-time and a chip-time. The gun-time is the time elapsed from when the starter begins the race to when you finish. The chip-time is the time from when you cross the start line to when you cross the finish line. Overall awards (top 3) and prize money will be selected by gun-time. Age-group, Clydesdale/ Athena and all other placing’s will be determined by chip-time.

 

How will I receive my result?

Results for the 5K and 10 Mile will be available for lookup at results kiosks at the results tent on race day immediately after finishing and online through the race website.

 

Where can I pick-up my packet?

Packet pick-up locations, dates and times will be posted on the race website and e-mailed to all registered participants once available. Locations will be available in the suburbs and the city. Race day packet pick-up is also available but participants are highly encouraged to come to a pre-race day packet pick-up to avoid race day lines. Packets will also be mailed for $12.50 if selected during the registration process.

 

Can a friend pick-up my packet?

Yes, a person may pick-up up to four packets at a time if they have the registration confirmation e-mail or copy of the driver's license (printed or on phone) of each person they wish to receive a packet for. If a person wishes to pick-up more than four packets and there is a line at packet pick-up they must return to the back of the line to receive additional packets.

 

Can I give my registration and or bib number to another person?

You may NOT give (sell or transfer) your registration to another person and another person may NOT run with another person’s bib/number.

 

Can my friends or family run with me if they are not registered?

No, unregistered persons may not run with you on the course or through the finish line. 

 

What are the events competition rules?

The event will abide by USATF competition rules. The event expects all participants respect fair competition, including following the RRCA's Fair Competition Policies: https://www.rrca.org/resources/event-directors/fair-competition-policies.

 

What if I don’t finish?

The event will have a shuttle to pick-up participants on the course that are unable to finish. Please understand the shuttle may not immediately return to the finish line area after pick-up. Participants may also have to wait for an extended period of time at an aid station while the shuttle moves through the course picking-up participants.

 

If I do not finish do I receive a finisher medal?

No, finisher medals are only provided to finishers immediately after crossing the finish line.

 

Can I defer or receive a refund?

Refunds and deferrals will NOT be issued for any reason, including injury and other unforeseen issues. Registering early comes with decreased entry fees and registrants should understand their risk by choosing to register early, including no opportunity for refunds.

 

What is the events cancellation policy?

Event staff reserves the right to cancel or to modify the race if deemed necessary to protect the participants, the volunteers, the spectators or the host community or as a result of unforeseen course/venue conflicts. Cancellations out of the direct control of the event will be recognized as unforeseeable acts. Since the staging of the race results in substantial up-front expenses regardless of whether or not the race is completed, cancellation or modification of the event will not result in the refunding of fees or future event credits.

 

II want to change distances, can I?

Yes, but you must officially change your registration before packet pick-up. E-Mail events@cararuns.org for information. If you are changing to a distance with a higher registration fee, you will be required to pay the difference in the registration fee. The difference will be calculated based on the amount you paid and the current registration rate for the 10 Mile. If you want to switch to a distance with a lower entry fee, you will not receive a refund for the difference in fees. Anyone who changes races without officially changing their registration will be disqualified and will not receive a finisher medal.

 

I am not able to run the race. Can I still get my shirt?

Yes, but you must come to a packet pick-up. Shirts are not available at the CARA office pre- or post-race.

 

My shirt does not fit; may I exchange it for another size?

Yes, if you have not yet worn or washed your shirt you may exchange it post-race at the awards tent. Exchanges will not be available until after the race.

 

I am part of a group. Are discounts available?

Yes, if you are part of a group please contact events@cararuns.org.

 

I am an elite athlete. Are their comp entries available?

Please go to our elite runners page for details.

 

What is the events weather policy?

Safety is our number one priority. If weather threatens our ability to safely run the event we will postpone if possible or cancel. We will not run in lightning. If there are weather delays or cancelations up to date information will be posted HERE and at cararuns.org in the twitter feed box.
